Lennon’s Death

I read about the murder of John Lennon on December 8th, 1980 by Mark David Chapman on Today in Literature, and was surprised to learn about the Catcher in the Rye connection.  In his mad world, Chapman thought himself to be some pseudo-Holden character out to kill the “phony.”  It’s a sad and sick story that has recently been put to film in Chapter 27.

Naturally, I went searching my well worn copy of Catcher for chapter 27, and it ends on 26.  Chilling.

It seems fitting that John Lennon is constantly on the radio with his holiday song, War is Over.  It seems a good time to think of someone who is not only a musical genius, but a literary giant, as well.
